A 2ndGenMaster teacher with a critical eye, an exacting yet even tempered style. The sound of his voice never wavered; he used an even pace and tone throughout the session. The group gathered from Ireland, Canada, VA, FL, IL, NY and NJ to enjoy closing out the year with Anthony Rabara.
Quality of movement was his focus. Flourishes were eliminated. By requesting that we move with “intention” rather than just for the sake of getting from point A to B, we are more engaged and fully connected and committed to the exercise and/or transition.
Moving the foot from one pole to the other is done as a conscious, deliberate and intentional action, and initiated from inside. He masterfully cued and coached for “quality” of each movement – not just the movement itself. From Teaser to Chest Expansion, Boxing, to Squats, Anthony exacted only our best. In a couple of cases this meant, the group repeated the exercise twice.
In order to teach Pilates, one must own it inside oneself. This is why this work continues. It is why our personal work is never ending. It is why I enjoy spending 90 minutes with other teachers with the eyes and voice of a teacher, such as Anthony Rabara, that has spent almost as much time teaching as I have spent living.
We all know the exercises, the joy comes in waiting for the surprise, the shift, the adjustment, or the variation from one who has history and a story to tell in the making of it.
