Yes. We all know this work. She says that to us at the outset. Then why does this feel so different?
We are reminded of how much deeper our engagement could be at the outset
with our bodies
with the movement
with the exercise
the transitions
the timing
tempo
rhythm
Whether at 5am (in Australia, as Celia Jones joined before the start of her day) or 2pm NYC time as the rest of us followed Cynthia Shipley, Master Teacher Trainer, Lifespan Pilates, from her home in Washington Heights.
Listen as Cynthia takes less than two minutes to Begin the Session and set the focus for our work.
Crisp, clear, precise. No gimmicky words or phrases.
pull vs push
resist
deepen
From the initial stand at the foot bar to the last movement of the hour, all completed with the softest timbre in her voice uttering a distinct southernness of her birthplace in its quality.
This was pure Pilates, and nothing short of fabulous. She pulled no punches and no one was left unaddressed throughout the session.
Now, on a technical side note, I don’t understand how she did that teaching from her iPhone??? But she did. Can you imagine watching all that movement on the 4×6 screen? But as Cynthia said, “here we are.”
I strongly encourage you to use the recorded session and follow her voice and tone to move a little deeper in your own personal practice.
