When I made the statement about adding Pilates Elder, Carola Trier’s illustrations to one of “my walls of Powerful Women” I acknowledged that power, beauty and strength are definitely on display in my movement space. Every piece has a story and connection to who and what I am as a person, an individual and as a member of a tribe of creative, expressive women.
Art, music and Pilates movement are key to my life and I suspect the lives of many of my #PilatesSisters. I loved the story, as told by Heather Erdmann and the re-creation of the illustrations she worked to produce. I knew the framed pieces would complete a wall in my studio while supporting the #PilatesTransparancyProject. I am delighted with the pieces and their addition to the space.
All the art comes from different perspectives, times and places, and all are resolute in form and action.
For example, Dr. Sian Proctor a geoscientist, explorer, space artist, and astronaut. She is the mission pilot for the Inspiration4 all-civilian orbital mission to space. She is also one of The Explorer’s Club 50: Fifty People Changing the World. During the first year of the pandemic, I read that she and three colleagues were being sent into space. This was before Bezos, of course, and a few months after I had moved into my new space. In the midst of the pandemic, while we were wandering around shocked and locked down, I found her artwork ( 4 x 6 prints) on the internet. I saw the dance move and “freedom of flight” in the afronaut pieces as powerfully liberating. These were added to the wall.
The work of Navajo artist, R.C. Gorman, was found in a small antique shop, while traveling southwest. They are actually postcard prints that I have framed and have loved their presence for more than twenty years.
I have been living with walls adorned by the art and images of powerful women (and/or created by artists depicting powerful women) for many years. I didn’t want to take them for granted or let them be overshadowed by the addition of two more pieces.
This post pays respect to all of us.
In addition to all the Pilates Movement art (postcard prints as well as original watercolor prints) beautifully crafted by Lindsay Satchell Designs, there is an ancestors wall in my studio that holds all my roots.
Parents, grandparents and great-grandparents keep me rooted and grounded. The original selfies.
